Dig v. No Dig Experiment

In March 2007 I created four new beds in a grass pasture, between newly planted apple maidens.

Six inches (15cm) of horse manure and compost were added to each one. In the undug beds it was laid on top to smother the grass, in the dug beds it was added underneath the inverted turves.

In winter 2007/8 the dug beds were re-dug and 2” (5cm) of horse manure or compost were incorporated, while the same amount of organic matter was added to the surface of the undug beds. I am recording all harvests. Cropping information to be posted in December 2008.
